Assistant Professor in Political Science

Ms. Deepika Gahatraj currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the Indian Institute of Legal Studies, Siliguri. She holds the title of Ph.D. Scholar from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, with her doctoral research focusing on "The Legal Discourse on Rape in India since 1979." Having completed her M.Phil. degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University, her thesis delved into "The Politics of Citizenship and Identity: A Study of Indian Nepalis."

Her educational journey began with a Bachelors (B.A.) in Political Science from Siliguri College under the University of North Bengal, followed by a Masters (M.A.) in Political Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University. She qualified the West Bengal State Eligibility Test in December 2018.

She actively participates in national and international seminars/conferences/symposium and fdps, contributing her insights to scholarly dialogues. Herscholarly contributions extend to publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals and books.

Her research interests encompass a wide array of topics, including gender studies, sexual violence, laws pertaining to women in India, and citizenship and identity rights of minorities.
