Field-Based Empirical Study on Contemporary Social Issues
13-10-2026
The students of BA LL.B 5 Years, Semester III (B), Indian Institute of Legal Studies (IILS), Siliguri, conducted fieldwork for their Empirical Research in Sociology course under the supervision of Dr. Birendra Bhujel. The fieldwork was conducted in different nearby areas of Dagapur and Matigara, Darjeeling district, through interaction with local residents and collection of primary data.
The students explored various contemporary sociological issues, including changing consumption patterns due to industrially produced goods, preference for branded versus locally made products, migration for employment, women’s participation in paid employment, and the use of digital payment methods instead of cash.
The fieldwork provided students with practical exposure to empirical research methods, data collection, observation, and interaction with respondents, enabling them to connect sociological concepts studied in the classroom with real-life social situations.
The students successfully concluded their data collection on 30 September 2026 in the designated fieldwork areas
