The ADR Society of Indian Institute of Legal Studies successfully conducted the Intra-Class ADR Trials – Knockout Round for the 3-Year LL.B IV Semester on 25th April 2026 as part of its curriculum-based practical learning initiative. Designed to bridge the gap between theoretical legal education and practical application, the ADR Trials provided students with hands-on exposure to structured dispute resolution mechanisms including mediation, negotiation, conciliation, and arbitration. The initiative aims to strengthen essential professional skills such as advocacy, legal drafting, evidentiary analysis, and strategic dispute settlement in real-world legal scenarios.

The knockout round featured a mediation-based labour dispute proposition titled “Dispute Concerning Wrongful Termination and Non-Payment of Statutory Benefits”, centred around an industrial conflict involving Zenith Garments Pvt. Ltd., a textile manufacturing company based in Siliguri. The dispute raised significant legal issues relating to wrongful termination, retrenchment procedures, gratuity, provident fund dues, overtime wages, workers’ rights, and industrial harmony under labour and industrial law principles. The mediation proceedings highlighted how Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms can effectively preserve employer-employee relationships while ensuring fair and expeditious settlement of disputes.

The mediation session witnessed intense arguments, strategic negotiations, and impressive advocacy skills from both participating sides. Party A – Zenith Workers Welfare Union, represented by Md Afzal, Riya Sancheti, and Nikita Roy, emerged as the Winner , while Party B – Zenith Garments Pvt. Ltd., represented by Chiranjit Pradhan, Biswajit Das, and Vishal Ghosh, demonstrated commendable legal reasoning and negotiation skills throughout the proceedings. The session was mediated by Mr. Bhaskar Choudhary, whose guidance and observations enriched the practical learning experience for all participants.

The event was successfully conducted under the guidance of Faculty Convenor Ms. Tripti Yonzon, Teacher Convenors ADRS Ms. Supriya and Ms. Sudiksha Ghatak, and Subject Teacher in Charge Ms. Dichen Bhutia, along with the dedicated efforts of Student Head ADRS Mr. Chandan Sha (Sem VIII).

The Intra-Class ADR Trials continue to promote experiential legal education by preparing students to become skilled, ethical, and practice-ready legal professionals capable of resolving disputes through effective and modern ADR mechanisms.
