Quarter Finals of Intra Moot Court Competition 2026

The Indian Institute of Legal Studies, Siliguri, successfully concluded the Quarter Finals of its Intra Moot Court Competition, 2026, held on the 12th of September 2026. Organised by the Moot Court Society, the competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from 8 teams representing the 5-year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) / B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) / B.Com. LL.B. (Hons.) courses, alongside students from the 3-year LL.B. (Hons.) programme, as part of the August–December Session, 2026.

The moot proposition centred on a complex constitutional and labour law dispute concerning excessive working hours, algorithmic workplace surveillance, mass termination of employees, and the emerging Right to Disconnect. The proposition examined significant questions relating to the maintainability of a writ petition against a private entity, the definition of “workman” under the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, the legality of mass retrenchment, and the constitutional guarantees of the Right to Life, Health, and Dignity under Article 21.

Moot court competitions serve as an indispensable cornerstone of legal education, bridging the gap between classroom theory and courtroom reality. Through rigorous research, memorial drafting, and legal argumentation, these exercises cultivate advocacy skills, analytical thinking, and professional confidence, shaping the next generation of legal professionals
