Special Lecture on Civil Procedure and Family Law

The Indian Institute of Legal Studies had the privilege of hosting Hon’ble Justice Biswajit Basu, Former Judge, The Hon'ble High Court at Calcutta , for an insightful special lecture on “Code of Civil Procedure and Family Law – I: Practical Insights from the Bench” on 19th August 2026. The lecture was attended by students from Semesters III, V & VII of the 5-Year B.A./B.B.A./B.Com. LL.B. (Hons.) programme and Semesters I, III & V of the 3-Year LL.B. programme.
The session focused on bridging the gap between theoretical legal education and practical courtroom experience, with Justice Basu sharing valuable insights from his experience on the Bench. Discussions covered the practical application of civil law, particularly in property-related matters, the importance of understanding civil procedure, and the procedural requirements relating to the maintainability and proper presentation of civil suits.
The lecture served as an enriching academic experience, encouraging students to strengthen their fundamental understanding of litigation, civil procedure and practical legal practice. The interaction provided students with valuable judicial perspectives and reinforced the importance of combining academic knowledge with practical exposure in the making of competent legal professionals.
