Sikkim is a landlocked state which is situated in the Himalayas. The state shares its border with Nepal in the western side, Tibet towards the northern and eastern side and also with Bhutan in the east. Towards the southern lies the state of West Bengal. Sikkim is the second smallest state after that of Goa and the census of 2011 provides that it is the least crowded state in India. The largest institution for higher education is Sikkim Manipal University of Technological Science. There are two polytechnic institutions. The Sikkim University which is a Central University is established under the Act passed by the Parliament of India in the year 2007 and is located in Gangtok the capital city of Sikkim. The University offers various traditional as well as non-traditional courses. As per legal education the Sikkim Government Law College which provides legal education was established in the year 1980 is affiliated to the Sikkim University.
The Sikkim Government law college is affiliated to the Sikkim University. It is situated at Lower Burtuk Road, Burtuk, Gangtok, Sikkim 737101. The College offers Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Arts. Since Sikkim is a small state the government of Sikkim has made all attempts by establishing Sikkim Law College to make the people and scholars interested in law, by providing proper legal education. Sikkim Law College provides a five year BA.LLB degree in law. Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law: This is a full time five years programme. The criteria for admissions into Sikkim Law College are that the students must pass (10+2) or equivalent from such recognized board. The number of seats is 80 per session. The selection will be as per the norms of the University.
Siliguri is the chicken neck- which is a narrow segment of land that connects the entire north eastern zone with the rest of India. It is also the hub of trade, health care facilities, education and such others that covers the entire ambit of urbanization in today’s era. The climatic condition is pleasant. Apparently in the last few years the Indian Institute of Legal Studies, Dagapur, has made a remarkable history in the entire region of North East by providing such excellence in imparting education vied which the students have stood in the top ranks amongst colleges by attaining above 70% marks in their examination.
