Stop Polluting Rivers: Lifeline to a Nation

As someone has truly points out that we Indians love to spread pollution, knowingly or unknowingly, either by bursting crackers during festivals or by playing loud speakers or by dumping waste materials in the water bodies and polluting it horribly. In fact, pollution has become integral part of our lives. Today, the major metropolitan cities of India are going through dangerous level of pollution. People are suffering from the various communicable and non-communicable diseases resulting from this staggering rate of pollution. Every form of pollution has crossed its limitation. National capital is labeled as one of the most polluted city of the world. Air quality is deteriorating from bad to worse. We are rapidly losing our forest cover and other natural vegetation. The rich ecology we had is in shambles now. The steps taken by the government is not up to the mark. The Multinational Corporations and giant companies are busy to destroy the vegetation and make massive profit from it. The rivers and streams are getting dry and polluted severely. The water pollution caused by the human activities has been one of the most challenging issue and existential threat to mother earth.

India has thousands of rivers, tributaries, streams, lakes, and glaciers which are tragically, day by day, losing its natural flow and witnessing massive level of pollution, which is destroying its natural temper and aquatic lives inside it. The unplanned sewage and dumping of domestic and factory wastage directly in to the water bodies have horribly destroyed and harmed the water habitats and water bodies. It’s an irony that thousands of rivers flow inside India, but majority of Indians is living under acute water scarcity. Thousand of infants are dying each day due to either water borne ailments or due to dehydration. Farmers are facing water shortage to irrigate their farm lands. When we go to the crux of it, we find that due to gross mismanagement and unplanned steps taken by the different companies by undermining the natural habitat and water bodies, the whole nation is paying a cost for it.

The government agencies and concerned department should focus effectively for the protection and conservation of water bodies. As water is a basic component of survival for every living creature on this planet, it is better to protect it from the unprecedented level of pollution. Let’s make a pledge to ourselves that every person from the family and locality contribute by making people aware about the causes of pollution of rivers and take remedial steps to put an end to it.
