Assistant Professor of Sociology

Dr. Chaitali Datta is an Assistant Professor of Sociology. She graduated with honors in Sociology from Siliguri College and earned her M.A. in Sociology from North Bengal University. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology from Amity University, Uttar Pradesh (Noida campus), where her doctoral research focused on "Social Aspects of Education and Health Status of Women Rabha Tribe of West Bengal: A Sociological Study."

Dr. Datta has published six articles in UGC Care-listed, Scopus, and peer-reviewed journals. She is the sole author of the book "Education and Health among Tribal Women: Social Aspects" (ISBN: 9789359992778), published in 2024 by Mittal Publications, Darya Ganj, New Delhi.

Dr. Datta has actively participated in and presented papers at international and national seminars and conferences. She has also successfully completed Faculty Development Programs (FDPs) and Workshops, as well as a three-month course in Disaster Management.

Dr. Datta is a life member of the Indian Sociological Society and the Indian Anthropological Society. Previously, she worked as a part-time invigilator for a research survey on the impact of assessment studies on National SC/ST Hub Radio Spots over AIR Vividh Bharati Channel, conducting fieldwork in Siliguri in February 2018. She also worked as a part-time investigator for a radio audience survey on Vividh Bharati Channel (2018-2019), conducting fieldwork in Siliguri in February 2019.

Her areas of interest include interdisciplinary research with sociology, tribal studies, women studies, rural studies.
