Gaurav Tamang is an academic and researcher in the field of English Studies with interests in translation, folk literature, oral traditions, and music culture of the Eastern Himalayas. He completed his B.A. (Hons.), M.A. in English from Jadavpur University and earned his M.Phil. in English from Sikkim University, where his research focused on Nepali folk songs as repositories of cultural identity. He qualified the UGC-NET in English in 2019.
His academic work includes translations and research publications on Indian Nepali literature, folk traditions, and cultural studies. He has contributed to books published by Routledge and Jadavpur University Press, and has presented papers at national seminars and conferences on translation, ethnomusicology, and oral history. His research particularly explores the relationship between folklore, memory, identity, and performance traditions in the Himalayan region.
Apart from academics, he is also trained in classical guitar performance and has been associated with musical and cultural projects that bridge literature, music, and oral heritage.
