1st Annual Intra-College Debate Competition, 2025

The 1st Annual Intra-College Debate Competition, 2025 was successfully organised by the Debate Society on 20th December 2025. The event was convened by Ms Prerna Lama, Assistant Professor of Law, with Ms Priyasa Rai and Ms Sumita Ghissing, Assistant Professors of Law, as Co-Conveners. Ms Anaita Rakshit, Student President of the Debate Society, played an active role in the organisation of the programme.

The competition was adjudged by Mr Debojyoti Chakraborty, a distinguished debater with over 12 years of experience, whose insightful observations enriched the event. He was felicitated by the Dean (Academics), Dr Priya Singh.

The debate was held on the topic “Should juveniles be prosecuted as adults.” Two teams participated in the final round. Team 1 (Proposition) comprised Mr. Titumir Choudhury (LL.B., 1st Semester) and Ms. Ananya Sarkar (B.A. LL.B., 7th Semester), while Team 2 (Opposition) consisted of Mr. Akash Hossain (B.A. LL.B., 7th Semester) and Ms. Sneha Sen (B.A. LL.B., 3rd Semester).

After an engaging and thought-provoking exchange of arguments, Team 1 emerged as the Winner, and Team 2 was declared the Runner-up. The title of Best Speaker was awarded to Ms. Ananya Sarkar (B.A. LL.B., 7th Semester).

Additionally, in recognition of the efforts and confidence displayed by the first-year B.A. LL.B. and LL.B. students who reached the semi-final round of the 1st Annual Intra-College Debate Competition, 2025, Mr Sulabh Kahar (B.A. LL.B., 1st Semester) and Mr Shoubhik Saha (LL.B., 1st Semester) were awarded the title of “Emerging Debater, 2025.”
