On 19th September 2026, the LL.B. 5th Semester students of Group A successfully completed their special empirical fieldwork and field survey at Kalighat Village, Cooch Behar, West Bengal, as part of their academic work under the subject Land Law.
The study was conducted on the topic “An Empirical Study on the Land Reforms Act and the Rights of Raiyats in Cooch Behar District.” Through interaction with local residents and field observations, the students conducted a field survey to gather practical information regarding land rights, ownership, possession, cultivation, awareness of legal rights, and land-related issues faced by raiyats.
The fieldwork provided the students with an opportunity to relate the theoretical aspects of Land Law to real-life experiences and gain practical exposure to empirical legal research and field-based survey methods. It also enhanced their understanding of land reform laws and the rights of raiyats at the grassroots level, thereby strengthening their knowledge of the practical and social dimensions of Land Law.
