The Indian Institute of Legal Studies, under the supervision of Ms. Upasana Bishnu, Assistant Professor of Law, Indian Institute of Legal Studies Coochbehar, organized a Human Rights Outreach Program at Pundibari GDL Girls High School, Cooch Behar on 14th May, 2026, focusing on a research-based survey on the Human Rights of Children as a Vulnerable Group. The outreach program was conducted at Pundibari GDL Girls High School, where the students of BALLB (H) 8th Semester undertook an insightful experiential field survey as part of their academic and socio-legal study. During the program, the students conducted personal interviews with teachers, students, and parents to understand the living conditions of children, awareness levels regarding child rights, educational conditions, accessibility and effectiveness of government welfare schemes, and the major causes behind school dropout. Through meaningful interaction, observation, and data collection, the students explored several significant issues, including the lack of awareness regarding child rights, poverty as a major cause of child vulnerability, and the persistent problem of school dropout among children. At the same time, the survey also highlighted the positive impact of government initiatives such as mid-day meal programs and scholarship schemes in promoting education, welfare, and retention of children in schools.
