The Indian Institute of Legal Studies, Cooch Behar, organized an educational visit to the Cooch Behar District Court on 9th April 2025, as part of the academic curriculum for the students of B.A.LL.B. Semester II. The visit was conducted under the subject Legal Writing II, which aims to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application in the field of law.
This court visit was designed to provide students with firsthand experience of the functioning of the Indian judicial system at the district level. The students had the opportunity to observe live court proceedings, interact with legal professionals including advocates and court staff, and gain insights into the practical aspects of litigation, court decorum, and judicial procedures.
The session proved to be an enriching experience as it allowed the students to witness the procedural nuances of both civil and criminal trials. It also helped them understand the structure of the court, the roles of different functionaries, and the manner in which justice is administered at the grassroots level.
Overall, the visit not only reinforced the students’ classroom learning but also sparked a greater interest in courtroom practices and legal writing. It served as an important step in shaping them into competent legal professionals in the future.
