Educational Outreach Programme on Insurance Law Conducted at LIC Cooch Behar

A successful special Outreach Programme was conducted by Indian Institute of Legal Studies Cooch Behar in Life Insurance Corporation of India Office, Cooch Behar, on 19th May 2026 as a part of practical activity for the subject Insurance Law which includes B.A LL.B(Hons) Semester VIII students. The activity was done under the supervision of subject teacher, Dr. Sachin Singh, Assistant Professor of Law, Indian Institute of Legal Studies Cooch Behar.

The programme dealt with two different aspects:

1. A special lecture was conducted by Grievance Redressal Officer (Chief Manager) of LIC Cooch Behar, Shri Pranab Bose on various aspects of Life Insurance covering the functionality and the redressal of disputes that occurs during the overall transaction in insurance business.

 The student were able to gain the knowledge of how insurance business works, functions of LIC, Grievance Redressal Officer, Insurance Regulatory Development Authority of India and Insurance Ombudsman.

2. On the part of practical activity, the students gained valuable information related to their empirical topics provided under the subject Insurance Law.

The students through the method of questionnaire were able to learn about the policies, procedures and actions taken by the LIC Office Cooch Behar in last 5 years for addressing issues arising out of non payment of premiums under the Non-Forfeiture Regulations governed by the Insurance Act, 1938. The students also gained valuable information related to Cooch Behar Branch's supervision system for Agent conduct under LIC of India (Agents) Regulations, 2017 in last few years after the implementation of the regulations.
