On 22nd September 2026, the students of LL.B. 5th Semester successfully completed their special empirical fieldwork at Maynaguri Block, Jalpaiguri, West Bengal – 735224, as part of their academic work under the subject Land Law.

The study was conducted on the topic “An Empirical Study on Land Acquisition and Its Impact on Affected Landholders: A Field Study in Maynaguri Block”, covering the Mouzas of Madhabdanga, Uttar Madhabdanga, and Ulladabri.

The field study aimed to provide students with practical insights into the experiences of landholders affected by land acquisition and to examine the legal, social, and economic implications of the acquisition process. Through direct interaction with affected landholders and field-level observations, the students explored issues relating to land acquisition, compensation, livelihood, awareness of legal rights, and challenges faced by affected persons.

The exercise enabled the students to connect the theoretical principles of land law with real-life experiences and to understand the practical impact of land acquisition on individuals and local communities. It also provided valuable exposure to empirical legal research and experiential learning, thereby strengthening their understanding of the relationship between law, land rights, and development.

The successful completion of the field study reflects the students’ active participation in practical legal education and field-based empirical research, contributing to a deeper understanding of the legal and social dimensions of land acquisition.
