10-04-2026
On 7th April, students of Indian Institute of Legal Studies Cooch Behar, visited Torsa Tea Private Limited of Alipurduar District under the guidance of Ms. Priyasa Rai, Assistant Professor of Law. The visit included students from B.A. LL.B. 4th Semester under the subject 'Gender Justice and Feminist Jurisprudence' and LL.B. 4th Semester under the subject 'Labour and Industrial Law II'.
During the visit, students interacted with Mr. Kiran Chettri, Deputy Manager, who guided the field tour and provided insights into labour welfare practices, labour laws, and maternity benefits. Students were shown facilities such as the creche house, healthcare facilities, and the factory unit, which provided practical exposure to workplace welfare measures.
The students were also informed about the 'Cha Sundari Scheme' introduced by the Government of West Bengal, aimed at providing housing and land rights to tea garden workers.
Overall, the visit was an enriching learning experience that helped students connect theoretical knowledge of labour law and gender justice with practical implementation.
