As part of its ongoing community outreach initiative, the Indian Institute of Legal Studies Cooch Behar, has conducted a Free Legal Aid and Awareness Programme at Tapsikhata High School, Cooch Behar, on 26th April 2025. The primary objective of the programme was to sensitize school students to essential aspects of law, civic responsibility, and the justice system through practical legal education.
The session commenced with an engaging career counselling segment, which introduced students to the relevance of legal education in the modern era, highlighting law as a dynamic and impactful field of study. Following this, a series of thematic presentations were delivered by both faculty and senior law students, covering a diverse range of legal issues.
Key areas of focus included consumer protection laws, with emphasis on online shopping practices and available grievance redressal mechanisms, as well as anti-ragging laws, stressing the serious legal implications of such misconduct within educational institutions. The programme also addressed the juvenile justice system, explaining the rights of children in conflict with law and those in need of care and protection. Students further received practical insights into road safety legislation and the correct procedures for filing General Diary entries, FIRs, and Zero FIRs, equipping them with legal tools for real-world situations.
