The Indian Institute of Legal Studies Cooch Behar organized a Free Legal Aid and Awareness Session at Hindi Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Alipurduar on 29thApril 2025. This initiative is part of the institution’s ongoing efforts to enhance legal literacy among school students and equip them with knowledge of their rights and legal responsibilities.

The session commenced with an insightful discussion on the importance and future scope of legal education, inspiring students to consider law as a means of fostering social change. It sought to bridge the gap between legal knowledge and the practical needs of everyday citizens, especially the youth.

The session revolved around consumer rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, with a particular focus on online shopping and grievance redressal mechanisms. The session also explored the Golden Triangle of the Indian Constitution—Articles 14, 19, and 21—which form the cornerstone of Fundamental Rights. Furthermore, the Right to Information (RTI) was discussed as an essential tool for promoting transparency and accountability. Practical legal guidance was also provided on General Diary (GD), FIR, and Zero FIR, offering students a clear understanding of how to navigate legal situations effectively.
