Legal Awareness Session on Child Marriage, Cybercrime & POCSO Act

The Indian Institute of Legal Studies Cooch Behar successfully organised a Legal Awareness Session on 16/09/2026 at Panchkolguri Promodini High School, focusing on Child Marriage, Cybercrime, and the POCSO Act.

The session featured three speakers, each addressing a legal theme relevant to young citizens:

1. Mr. Kushal Sharma, Assistant Professor of Law – “Child Marriage”
Mr. Kushal Sharma spoke on “Child Marriage,” highlighting the importance of child protection, legal awareness, and the prevention of early marriage. The session focused on making students aware of their rights and duties, encouraging them to oppose child marriage, and explaining why both girls and boys should understand the consequences of early marriage.

2. Ms. Tandra Ghosh, LL.B Semester III – “Cybercrime”
Ms. Tandra Ghosh spoke on “Cybercrime,” addressing online safety and responsible digital behaviour.

3. Ms. Priya Sharma, LL.B Semester III – “POCSO Act”
Ms. Priya Sharma spoke on the “POCSO Act", explaining the legal safeguards available for the protection of children.

The student coordinators, Mr. Himen Barman, B.A. LL.B. Semester V, and Ms. Soumi Roy, B.A. LL.B. Semester III (A), contributed to the successful conduct of the session.

The programme aimed to promote legal literacy, awareness, and responsible citizenship among young students.

We continue to conduct such outreach sessions under our Legal Aid Awareness initiative, aimed at spreading legal literacy among young citizens.
