The Indian Institute of Legal Studies Cooch Behar, organized an outreach programme on 20th May, 2026 under the supervision of Miss Upasana Bishnu, Assistant Professor of Law. As a part of our field work on Human Rights of Disabled People, we visited a Childrens Home  For Blind Boys at Coochbehar .During our visit, one of the office staff members explained to us how the institution works and how they support visually impaired students in their education, daily activities, and overall development.

The institution informed us that it functions under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, commonly known as the JJ Act.And it generally provides care and support to students up to the age of 18 years. They also have an after-care facility for those who need continued guidance and support even after reaching adulthood. Due to the summer vacation, we were unable to interact directly with the students, but the staff member gave us detailed information about the services, facilities, and care provided by the institution.
