Rights of Disabled Persons - Outreach Program

The Indian Institute of Legal Studies organized an outreach program under the supervision of Ms. Upasana Bishnu on the subject of human rights. The outreach program was conducted by the students of B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) 8th Semester on the theme of "An Analytical Examination of Rights of Disabled Persons under Indian Law: Implementation Gaps and Future Prospects in Cooch Behar District. The program was conducted at the Blossom special school on 18th May 2026.
The main purpose of the outreach program was to gain practical knowledge regarding the condition and protection of special child and to understand the legal and administrative mechanisms available for their welfare. The study focused on identifying the major challenges faced by the disabled children and during the visit, we observed that the school provided education and training to children with different disabilities such as:
1. Hearing impairment
2. Visual impairment
3. Intellectual disabilities
4. Autism spectrum disorder
5. Physical disabilities
We interacted with the teachers who explained the importance of patience, care, and individualized teaching methods in special education. They informed us about the challenges faced by specially-abled children and the role of parents and society in supporting them.
