The visit was undertaken by 10 students of LL.B. Semester III with the objective of providing practical exposure to the workplace environment, employer-employee relations, workplace discipline, and statutory labour welfare compliance in a private Bought Leaf Tea Manufacturing Unit in North Bengal.

Unlike tea estate factories, Bought Leaf Tea Factories primarily process green tea leaves procured from small tea growers and engage factory workers on contractual or casual terms. This model provides students with an opportunity to understand workplace arrangements and employer-employee relationships that may differ from the comparatively formal and unionised structures found in larger tea estates.

Keeping in view the apprehension of the private factory management, the visit was conducted purely as an observational exercise, without administering any questionnaire. The students observed the factory premises, safety signboards, hygiene conditions, welfare facilities, division of work, and the manufacturing process from leaf weighing to processing and packaging and documented their observations.

The visit proved to be an enriching and experiential learning exercise, providing students with practical exposure to the working environment and labour-related aspects of a tea manufacturing unit.
