Visit to The Lok Adalat by The Students of Indian Institute of Legal Studies Cooch Behar

The students of Indian Institute of Legal Studies Cooch Behar attended the Lok Adalat held at the District Court Complex, Cooch Behar, on 7th May 2025, as part of their curriculum. The visit provided students with valuable exposure to the real-time functioning of Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms.

During the visit, the students witnessed live proceedings and interacted with various judicial officers who were presiding over different benches of the Lok Adalat. The following esteemed judicial officers were present during the Lok Adalat sessions:

7. Smt. Sharmistha Ghosh, Civil Judge (Sr. Division) cum Asst. Sessions Judge, Sadar

8. Mr. Pranay Subba, Secretary, DLSA, Cooch Behar

The students observed various types of cases being taken up for amicable settlement, including civil disputes, matrimonial cases, bank recovery matters, and compoundable criminal cases. The presence and guidance of the respected judicial officers greatly enriched the learning experience, offering insights into practical application of legal principles, case management, and the ethos of conciliatory justice.

The visit was not only informative but also inspiring for the students, as it reinforced their understanding of the role of Lok Adalat in ensuring access to justice for all, especially marginalized and economically weaker sections.
