Youth Awareness on Addiction and Oath-Taking Ceremony

The Indian Institute of Legal Studies Cooch Behar, successfully organized a “Youth Awareness on Addiction and Oath-Taking Ceremony” on 19th August 2026, in association with Prajapita Brahma Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, as part of the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” (Addiction-Free India Campaign) launched by the Government of India.
The programme was conducted under the guidance and support of Dr. Jayati Kharga, Principal-in-Charge, whose encouragement and cooperation contributed significantly to the successful organization of the programme. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Priyasa Rai, Assistant Professor of Law and Coordinator of the Programme, followed by the felicitation of the distinguished guests and presentation of Certificates of Appreciation.
Brahma Kumari Sanchita Sister delivered the keynote address and spoke extensively on the importance of creating awareness among the youth regarding substance abuse, its harmful consequences, and its impact on spiritual well-being. The Guests of Honour, Brahma Kumari Soni Sister, Brahma Kumari Sima Sister, and Brahma Kumari Anjali Sister, also shared valuable insights on substance abuse and emphasized the importance of leading an addiction-free life.
Dr. Sachin Singh, Assistant Professor of Law, addressed the students on the legal aspects of substance abuse, including relevant legal provisions and remedies. The session was hosted by Ms. Simpi Priya Choudhary, a student of B.A. LL.B. 7th Semester. Ms. Serion Rai, a student of B.A. LL.B. 3rd Semester, presented a meaningful dance drama portraying the harmful effects of substance abuse and conveying the message of the importance of an addiction-free life.
The programme also included the National Oath-Taking Ceremony, during which the participants pledged their commitment to staying away from drugs and contributing towards the vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Diwash Saibya, Assistant Professor of Law.
The programme was highly informative and meaningful, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to promoting awareness among youth and supporting the vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat.
