Mr. Rohit Tamang is a legal academic and researcher with a focused engagement in interdisciplinary and comparative legal studies. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Law at Indian Institute of Legal Studies.
An alumnus of Indian Institute of Legal Studies, Mr. Rohit Tamang completed his B.Com. LL.B. (Five-Year Integrated Course) before pursuing his LL.M. in Constitutional Law from CMR School of Legal Studies, where he graduated with First Class distinction. He is presently engaged in doctoral research in Law at Amity University, further advancing his scholarship in areas that inform his academic work. In addition, he is currently pursuing an M.Com. from Sikkim Manipal University, reflecting his interest in the intersection of law, commerce, and economic regulation.
His research interests include Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Human Rights Law, Labour Law, Environmental Law, and Public and Private International Law. This broad yet structured engagement reflects a commitment to examining law through both doctrinal and socio-legal perspectives. His LL.M. dissertation critically examined the implementation of child labour legislation in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal, highlighting the gap between legal frameworks and ground-level realities. This work demonstrates his emphasis on empirical and context-driven legal research that interrogates the effectiveness of law in practice.
Mr. Rohit Tamang has contributed to 41 publications in various reputed academic journals and edited volumes, including publications in UGC-CARE listed journals such as the Kashmir Journal of Legal Studies. His work includes both individual and collaborative research with scholars from diverse academic institutions. His scholarship engages with contemporary legal developments, evolving jurisprudence, and issues relating to access to justice. In addition to his academic work, he serves as a member of the Legal Aid Committee at the Indian Institute of Legal Studies, where he actively participates in organizing legal awareness and outreach programmes for underserved communities. This practical engagement informs his academic perspective and reinforces his commitment to socially responsive legal scholarship.
