Mr. Rohit Tamang is an Assistant Professor of Law at the Indian Institute of Legal Studies, Cooch Behar. His academic and professional journey reflects a strong commitment to constitutional principles, social justice, and community-oriented legal development.

He completed his B.Com LL.B. (Five-Year Integrated Course) from the Indian Institute of Legal Studies, Siliguri. He subsequently pursued his LL.M. with specialization in Constitutional Law from CMR School of Legal Studies, Bengaluru, Karnataka. Demonstrating an interdisciplinary academic orientation, he is currently pursuing M.Com from Sikkim Manipal University and is also undertaking his Ph.D. at Amity University, Gwalior, focusing on critical socio-legal and constitutional issues.

His LL.M. dissertation titled “Implementation of Child Labour Laws in the District of Darjeeling, West Bengal: A Study” critically examined the practical challenges in enforcing child protection legislation and identified significant gaps between statutory mandates and ground-level implementation.

His broader research interests include Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Public International Law, Private International Law, Interpretation of Statutes, Environmental Law, Labour Law, the Right to Information Act, 2005, the Indian Contract Act, 1872, Child and Women Laws, Family Law, and Health Law.

Mr. Rohit Tamang has a strong research profile with 39 publications, including book chapters and research articles published in reputed university journals and edited volumes. Notably, he has one publication in a UGC-CARE listed journal, the Kashmir Journal of Legal Studies, reflecting the academic recognition and quality of his research contributions. His scholarship primarily engages with constitutional governance, human rights jurisprudence, labour welfare, child protection laws, and broader socio-legal issues.

He has actively presented research papers at numerous national and international seminars and conferences, contributing to academic discourse across diverse legal themes.

In addition to his academic contributions, he serves as an Executive Committee Member of the Legal Aid Committee at the Indian Institute of Legal Studies,Siliguri. In this capacity, he has organized and conducted over 30 legal awareness camps across Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong, Sikkim, and surrounding tea garden regions, promoting legal literacy and access to justice among marginalized communities.

He has also completed several certificate courses from reputed universities and regularly participates in faculty development programmes, workshops, and academic training initiatives to strengthen his research, teaching, and professional competencies.
