Upasana Bishnu, Assistant Professor of Law, Indian Institute of Legal Studies is a distinguished law graduate from North Bengal University, has completed her LL.M. in Public Laws with an expected graduation in 2024. With a strong academic foundation in constitutional and criminal law, she has published in reputed UGC-Care journals and contributed chapters to significant national and international legal conferences. Her research spans diverse yet pressing areas of law - from the legal and ethical dimensions of biotechnology to gender justice and judicial independence - demonstrating her intellectual rigor and ability to engage with complex, interdisciplinary issues.
Upasana Bishnu has contributed extensively to legal research through her publications and academic work. She has published a research paper in The Bioscan, a UGC-Care Journal, and presented a chapter at the National Conference on “Paradigm Shifts in Criminal Justice System” . Her scholarly contributions also include a chapter in ISBN books one of them titled Tendencies of Gender Inequality towards Men in the Indian Legal System. Further, her dissertation for the LL.M. program, titled Independence of Higher Judiciary: A study of the post-emergency scenario (1975 onwards) in India, reflects her deep engagement with constitutional law and the functioning of the Indian judiciary.
Her professional journey reflects both depth and versatility. She has undertaken internships across varied legal institutions, including the Siliguri Police Commissionerate, the Sikkim State Human Rights Commission, LIC, Axis Bank, and under eminent legal practitioners, thereby acquiring practical exposure to the functioning of law in real-world settings. She has also served as the Coordinator of the Bengal Chapter at Aequitas Victoria Research Centre (AVRC), she leads research initiatives with authority and precision. Her experience is further enriched by active participation in national and regional conferences, judging competitions, and mentoring peers, showcasing her leadership in academic and professional domains alike.
Recognized for both intellectual excellence and cultural versatility, Upasana has been honored with the Lions Women Empowerment Award 2021, featured as a semi-finalist on Aakashe Superstar, and awarded at the All Bengal Congress Lawyers’ Conference 2023. She is a classically trained singer (Graduate in Indian Classical Music) with regular Television artist as a singer in Doordarshan (DD Bangla), and radio channels and prestigious platform like “Rabindra Sadan”.
